THE PALIMPSEST IN TOYKO

βœ§β‹„β‹†β‹…β‹†β‹„βœ§β‹„β‹†β‹…β‹†β‹„βœ§

We took the second installation of the Paradox of Personhood to Tokyo, with the lens of The Palimpsest. We took this opportunity to reflect on the myriad cultural touchpoints that have influenced our individual and collective attitudes towards AI. We’ve seen that previous generations struggled to define personhood, and this task has not been made easier with recent technological developments: robots solving captchas, generative goo, deepfakes; the Worldcoin products do not shy away from the paradox of personhood, nor are they exempt from the Palimpsest. We invite you to explore where the Orbs sit within your cultural lexicon – and to make your own contribution to the Palimpsest. See you at FEST for the next installation of the Paradox.

Humanness The Face of AI

Advancements in AI make it difficult to distinguish between AI and humans on the internet, highlighting a need for authentic human recognition and verification. In response, Worldcoin is initiating an open and permissionless identity protocol called World ID. In this session, we will discuss the pressing topic of β€˜Humanness in the age of AI’: what it means for society and how technologies like World ID are building for it. Catch this Required Reading with Worldcoin only at FEST.

AI and the Future of Onchain Creativity

With the launch of the AI Subnet in May, Livepeer also announced their new AI Video Startup Program to fuel the growth of the most disruptive startups at the intersection of AI and media.

A select number of ambitious startups were invited to join a bespoke 3-month program designed to accelerate the development of decentralized AI video technologies and applications. Teams receieve grant funding, mentorship, investor networking, expert technical support, and exclusive early access to Livepeer’s AI Video infrastructure.

A few of these teams will be joining us for FEST, and sharing their builder persepective on Main Stage during "AI and the Future of Onchain Creativity." See you in the woods.

What are you reading?

Alec: Visions of Excess by Georges Battaile. It's making me reconsider a lot.

Corrine: I find myself reading more articles over novels at this moment. I recently read "The Divine Marquise" published in The New Yorker in 2003 by Judith Thurman. It's about Luisa Casati, a Milanese aristocrat who seemed to really know how to live. She was a muse for a lot of what walked down the Dior runway during the John Galliano era.

Current scent obsession.

Alec: A glizzy on the grill. Because it's summer.

Corrine: Jasmine. It's pure and impure all at once and it reminds me of Los Angeles.

Can’t stop thinking about?

Alec: Apple rebranding AI to Apple Intelligence.

Corrine: The places I haven't been.

$FWB IS MIGRATING TO BASE

$FWB is strategically migrating the $FWB token from Ethereum Mainnet to Base Layer 2, and introducing a new arcade token, $Benefits.

This evolution of our token ecosystem is a milestone for FWB. Born from a squad of culture makers interested in emerging technology, we have always been a community of trendsetting experimentalists. Much much more to come on the migration. In the meantime, mark your calendars with these migration milestones, and review the passed proposal for additional questions.

Apply to BaseCamp 001

Since day one, Base has rallied a community of builders working to create a decentralized future onchain, together. We’ve seen the impact of collective action to reshape the internet, and now with the 1-year anniversary of Base mainnet coming up this August, we’re bringing the community together in person with BaseCamp, our inaugural gathering of builders and creators building the next generation of the internet onchain.

TYSM TO OUR FEST PARTNERS

Our 2024 cohort of presenting partners include Base, Eco, LUKSO, Stellar Development Foundation, Uniswap, and Worldcoin. Special thanks to Lens, Livepeer, PUSH, and Optimism for their collaboration. Incredible activations are coming to FEST.

Deep and many thanks to our FEST host, Idyllwild Arts Academy

Nestled amidst the breathtakingly beautiful village of Idyllwild, high in the San Jacinto mountains of Southern California, the Idyllwild Arts campus serves as a peaceful respite for artists seeking to explore the depths of their creativity and join a broader creative collective through the Academy (an international boarding arts high school) or the Summer Program (an immersive arts camp for all ages).

Idyllwild Arts respectfully acknowledges the Qawishpa Cahuillangnah (also known as Cahuilla Band of Indians) and all nine sovereign Bands of Cahuilla people who have stewarded this land throughout the generations and continue to steward this land for all future generations.
